A multi-faceted Oleron village
Boyardville’s origins date back to the construction of the famous fort on the sandbar known as “Boyard’s Loin” . During construction, workers’ barracks and materials warehouses were set up on this part of the island facing the site. Boyardville remains the best spot on the island of Oleron to admire the imposing fort built at sea. On the eastern coast of the island, Boyardville is a pleasant resort with beautiful wood-lined beaches, quays along the channel and a pretty marina. The village is part of Saint-Georges-d’Oléron. It can be reached very quickly on arrival on the island, simply by following the tourist oyster route that runs along the coast past Château-d’Oléron. From the Made in Camp Le Fief Melin campsite, it takes less than 15 minutes to reach the town of Boyardville, best known for its port, via Dolus-d’Oléron or the coast.
The Perrotine channel and the port
The Perrotine channel crosses Boyardville and joins the Coureau d’Oléron, the arm that separates the island from the mainland on the eastern side. The channel is always busy, with fishing boats coming and going and oyster barges maneuvering. At low tide, anglers take advantage of the channel’s exit.
This shoreline is bordered on one side by the shipyard and dry port, and on the other by the marina’s wet dock. The landing stages of the companies offering cruises to Fort Boyard are also located here, close to the harbor. Whether it’s a cruiser, catamaran or old rigging, there’s plenty of choice for holidaymakers looking for adventure.
