At first glance, visiting Brem-sur-Mer may seem like a quick trip, but don’t miss out on two real hidden treasures. Take the time to stop and stroll through its two emblematic neighborhoods, each with its own ambience.

La Gachère, marine charm and marsh air

Welcome to La Gachère, an old fishing village nestled on the edge of the Olonne marshes. With its narrow streets, low whitewashed houses and colorful boats gently bobbing on the water, this neighborhood is a haven of peace. Today, a handful of oyster farmers still carry on the traditions, but the scenery has remained intact. What do we think? The highlight of this walk is the 360° panoramic view from the little Gachère bridge, to fully immerse yourself in this peaceful, bucolic atmosphere.

Saint Nicolas, between heritage and panorama

Nearby, the Saint Nicolas district immerses you in the history of Brem-sur-Mer. You won’t want to miss the Romanesque church of the same name, an 11th-century gem listed as a Monument Historique. Its ancient stones tell the story of centuries of life. Next door, the hosannière cross watches over the cemetery, before a short path leads you into the Vallée de l’Ecours. After a few wooden steps, the most curious will reach the feudal motte, once used to defend this district.

For a nature break during your visit to Brem-sur-Mer, visit the Parc des Genêts! This shady, three-hectare park is the perfect place for a stroll or bike ride, with its century-old trees and quiet paths.

In our opinion, it’s also the ideal spot for a picnic with family or friends, with everything you need to have a great time. In fact, the park has play areas for children, a boulodrome for pétanque enthusiasts, a large open-air theater for summer events… and even a plant maze to delight the curious young and old!

From April to October, the park features attractions such aswater slides, mini-golf, a city stadium and two tennis courts. These outdoor areas can be booked directly at the Brem-sur-Mer Tourist Office.

Halfway between river and marsh, the Auzance meanders peacefully through Brem-sur-Mer, providing a wild and relaxing backdrop to your Atlantic coast holiday. Here, freshwater meets saltwater, creating a rich ecosystem ideal for angling. Mullet, sea bass, plaice, smelt… the fish are there, and so is the silence.

No fishing license is required on this stretch of water, so all you have to do is put down your rod and enjoy the moment. On the other hand, if you venture to the Ecours stream, near the Auzance river, a fishing licence is once again required.

If you’re a gourmand or a curious person looking for things to see and do in Brem-sur-Mer, visit the market! From mid-April to mid-September, it comes to life twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays, on the Place du Jardin de l’Océan and in the town center. In low season, don’t panic: the market is always held on Friday mornings, in the same place.

Here, stalls overflow with fresh produce from the Vendée region: local vegetables, tasty meats, freshly caught fish… not forgetting the Brem specialties that are the pride of the village. Taste the wines of Brem-sur-Mer, indulge in a glass of troussepinette, the typical Vendée aperitif, and stock up on good produce direct from producers in the Pays de la Loire region.
